Partitions on G510 without Windows?

2013-11-29, 19:30 PM
Hello. On Lenovo G series laptops that come without Windows (they come with FreeDOS), how is the hard drive partitioned?

A friend bought such G510 laptop, and he says there are only three partitions: two 1GB partitions of unknown purpose, and one huge partition for everything else (it's a 1TB hybrid hard drive).

I'm wondering, how exactly should the OneKey Recovery work when the laptop comes only with FreeDOS, and there's only one huge partition visible to the user? I hardly doubt that such a huge partition is backed up by OneKey. What's the catch here?

Hi TMHKR,

OneKey Recovery is a software to recover your computer using the recovery partition on preinstalled windows systems.

If your computer come without windows OneKey Recovery will be useless for you.

What exactly do you want to do with OneKey Recovery?

Vince.

Well, I was reading about using the OKR 7.0 Engineering DVD to implement OneKey Recovery on systems that come without Windows:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/Disk-Partitioning-and-OneKey-Recovery-Feature/m-p/1313099#M49326

I might try that procedure, and see if it really works. It's just too bad that you're limited to 4 primary partitions - I wonder if it could work with this layout (it would still be 4 primary partitions):

- 100 MB Windows 7 System Recovery (primary)

- C: drive (primary)

- D: drive (primary, extended)

- E: drive (logical drive inside extended)

- Lenovo_Part (OneKey Recovery, primary)
