Question

I have Lenovo G460 which has problem with charging when I plug in power cable to laptop then Power managment shows that Plug in not charging  sometime battery is charged 100% but sometimes  its stuck on 80% and shows Plug in not charging  and does  not increase  to 100% and sometime its stuck also on 60% how do I  solve this issue?

Answer

Charging % start and stop points can be controlled through the power management software.  This is a feature can help prolong battery life by reducing unecessary charging of the battery.

To check / update these settings:

 1. Click the "Settings" button.

2. Check "Optimize For Battery Runtime" under "Battery Health" and the problem will be resolved.

Optimize For Battery Runtime" is to protect the battery and extend the lifespan of the battery. Because the lifespan of one battery is related to its charging circle, the power charging will automatically cut off to protect the battery when the power reaches to a certain amount.

If the issue persists, try reinstalling the power mangement software

Uninstall Lenovo energy management re-fix the battery then charge the battery completely then restart the laptop and install Lenovo energy management software again.

I had bought Lenovo G500s laptop last year in Jan.It was working fine till now.

Problem is whenever I start playing games(fifa) on my laptop, charging light starts blinking red while still on charging.Does this mean there is some problem with the battery because it works fine normally but as soon as I do something that requires lot of CPU usage(load) it stops charging, battery status showing "Plugged in, not Charging".
Checking on the internet and reading on the lenovo forum,I am putting some points
1.Should i I use my laptop in HIGH PERFORMANCE mode
2.Has it something to do with the Nvidia GPU because i tried to run the game on intel integrated graphics it was lagging but charging didn't stop
3.Is it due to internal heating of laptop that battery tries to save itself by not charging(shall i use a cooling pad if that is the problem)
I am providing the specs of my laptop:
Processor:Intel(R) Core (TM) i3-3120M CPU@2.50GHz
Nvidia GeForce 720M
Ram:4GB
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Product ID:00179-40399-85162-AAOEM
Please reply ASAP!!

What's DOS?

I have a Lenovo G40-80 laptop and my laptop was telling me that it was plugged in but not charging. I have Software that is ONE KEY Optimizer. Whe I click on it, I can have it check the battery. It has a tab for Battery saver option which I clicked to the off position.. Apparetly part of the battery saver feature is that it only allows the battery to stay at 60% charged to increase battery life. once I clicked that feature to the off postion it then allowed the battery to charge to 100%.

Hi!

I have a G70-80 with the battery problem ever since I was too eager to install Linux Mint, allowing it to take over the whole hd.  My questions:

1) Since I'd rather stick to Linux, is there a good alternative for the Lenovo Energy Management program under Linux?

2) If not, would the Lenovo program work under Wine?

3) If not, would a bios update reset the setting to a normal one (I need 100% charge)

A wish: I wish this is something that could be selected in the bios settings.

Removing the battery and AC and then pressing down the power button seemed to help (71%), but I ran into acpi problems and for a while I got the "failed to lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock" warning, which meant I could not even get into Synaptics.

I hope you can help. The Finnish seller only remarked he would not provide any support for Linux.

Thanks!

Hi again,

I found a man page about tlp.  It looks like it could be the solution:

linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-linux-advanced-management.html#installation

The G70 will not allow me to install tlp.  Is the Lenovo program stopping Mint from downloading the program or even adding the tlp -ppa to the repositories ("No JSON object could be decoded")? If so, what can I  do about it?

Second question: where does the Lenovo program put the 60% charge setting?  Is it in cmos?  Would/should pressing F9 in the bios clear the cmos also of the setting?
