Hi - not sure if anyone can help - I have a Lenovo G50 and in the last couple of days, everytime I plug in the adaptor, the laptop shuts down. Fortunately, the internal battery seems to be fine - so I'm guessing it's something to do with the connection on the laptop. It is also a brand new adaptor.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Would the adapter be an OEM branded as the original one (same Lenovo part number from authorized seller)?
Try having it plugged on the laptop while it is turned off. WIth a drained battery, see if the battery led light would change from blinking amber to solid white after 1-2 hours.
Turn on the machine using the novo button to stay in the BIIOS set up screen. Check if it would power on with and without the ac charger connected.
Update us how it goes.

Good morning - many thanks for the reply. Just to clarify - the new adaptor is a genuine Lenovo.
I've pretty much tried everything you suggested - I drained the internal battery - plugged in the adaptor and left it overnight - and the battery was fully charged the following morning. However, the laptop still immediately shuts down if I plug the adaptor in after I've powered on - and it's the same if I use the novo button.
I have tried the old adaptor - but exactly the same as above. I'm becoming more convinced that it's not the adaptor - but the laptop itself - possibly the motherboard?
If you have any other thoughts - I'd be grateful.

Using both original and new genuine adapter but still having same shutdown as son as plugged in would more likely be an internal issue.
You would need to have it checked in a service center specially if you have updated the BIOS as laptops are known to autoshutdown to prevent possible damage that may be incurred by direct power it receives from the adaptor and other same reasons.
