the service centre - i'm not sure that's the correct English term, it's a translation from the German name - in Win 8.1 told me there was a problem with the Realtek 2-in 1 card reader in a G500s notebook. The service centre instructed to install a new driver for the card reader. Device manager said the built-in card reader wasn't connected to the computer. At the time i got the message from Windows service centre, the most recent card reader driver from the Lenovo support site already was installed on the computer. Windows service centre provided a link to the Realtek support site, where a driver for Win 8 was offered. The version is 6.3.273.37. I uninstalled the existing driver, rebooted, installed the new driver and rebooted, but the card reader wouldn't appear in device manager. The driver showed up in the list of installed programs, though. It turned out one needs to cold re-boot in order to make device manager recognize the card reader again.
