Re: SSD on WWAN-port? g560 upgrading cpu and graphics?

Hello,

I would like to do an SSD in my G560 in addition to the standard HDD.

I have read you can use in some laptop's also the WWAN port to use for the mSATA or mini-PCI connector. Is this possible in this model? because i found some mSATA-SSD´s.

I have no UMTS/3G module i
nstalled and only the Internal HD4000 Garfik from Intel.

If not, is there another way to connect an extra SSD?

the method with complete exchange or instead of the dvd drive  I already know.

Furthermore, I would like to improve my CPU. Currently a I3 M350 is installed, a I5 is possible? Which generation?

and last but not least I wanted to ask for upgrade capabilities of the graphics, but unfortunately I have only one VGA and my TV only have HDMI. The "converter" and external graphics cards are known to me. But can I retrofit a HDMI, or another graphics card, because there is the G560 also with other graphics and HDMI ...

Re: SSD on WWAN-port? g560 upgrading cpu and graphics?

hi Plumpi,

Regarding your questions:

1. Looking at page 28 of the hardware maintenance manual, the PCI Express Mini Card slot is configured to support the following:

PCI Express Mini Card slot

• one half size for WLAN card

• one full size for WWAN card

It doesn't indicate that it supports SSD signaling so unless you have the mSATA SSD handy for testing, I don't recommend purchasing it for this matter.

2. Other than replacing the stock 2.5" HDD for a 2.5" SSD, or using an HDD caddy (internal method), you can use a USB mSATA SSD enclosure or a 2.5" SATA HDD enclosure to use an SSD drive (external method).

3. As per page 27 of the hardware maintenance manual, it's possible to upgrade to an i5 CPU as the system supports it:

• Intel Core i5-520M (2.40GHz, 3MB L3, DDR3-1066, PGA)

• Intel Core i5-430M (2.26GHz, 3MB L3, DDR3-1066, PGA)

For the upgrade, ensure that you order a CPU with the lenovo part number listed, otherwise, the system may not operate correctly.

4. There are selected G560 units with HDMI ports. Since this part is soldered on the motherboard, you can't retrofit an HDMI slot without changing the whole motherboard. For the Intel HD Graphics, this comes integrated with the CPU. To upgrade to a discrete graphics (i.e. to an Nvidia G310 with 512M DDR3 VRAM), you will need to change the motherboard as this is also soldered to the planar.

Regards

Re: SSD on WWAN-port? g560 upgrading cpu and graphics?

Hi Plumpi,

      welcome to the forums,

according to my knowladge, the G560 has a single WWAN port, which is used for the wireless card, if you plan on sacrificing the wireless adapter for a mini-PCIE ssd, then you can but be advised that if you want to continue having wireless connectivity, you might need to install a USB external Wireless adapter like this one Link

Thx for your answer!

Where can i find the hardware maintenance?

On the linked picture i also see, that an I7 620M is also enable?

I knew that i would need a wirless-stick if i remove the internal card, but thx.
