Texture Flickering on Halo 2 Vista

2015-04-08, 5:36 AM

Hello, I have been seeing flickering textures in a pretty much dead game called Halo 2 Vista. As you figured, it is optimized for Vista, but I am on Windows 8.1. I have been researching on Google of this occurance, and everyone with this problem had a fix with the new Intel HD Graphics drivers. However, I may not receive this fix because Lenovo products are OEMs, and the drivers within the Intel site were not created for such. But to get the latest drivers that contain the fix, I must uninstall my current one and install the desired one. Should I take the action?

Specs:

OS: Windows 8.1

Processsor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200M CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50GHz

Installed RAM: 6.00 GB

System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

BTW, I am using Lenovo G510 Laptop

If you look closely at this image, you should see some odd patterns of the textures on these aliens' armors.

hi Hohshua,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you have  the G510 with the Intel® HD Graphics 4600 only and updating to the latest graphics drivers from the Intel site fixes the texture flickering issue then you should give it a shot as you always rollback the driver or install the preloaded one from the lenovo site.

In addition, besides doing a clean installation of the graphics drivers, you can also manually install them by opening the following:

   - Device Manager

   - Display Adapters

   - Intel® HD Graphics 4600 (Right Click > Update Driver Software)

   - Browse my computer for driver software

   - Let me pick from a list of device drivers

   - Have Disk

   - download and extract the win64_153618.zip latest driver and point the driver update to the igdlh64.inf file under the Graphics folder.

Regards

Unfortunately, I do not have a disk in handy as of right now.

Should I uninstall my driver and install the desired driver? But wouldn't unistalling it make my screen black, i think?

EDIT: Yeah, uh, nvm I figured it out. Thank you sir or ma'am.

This 2015 driver crashes Halo 2 Vista during gameplay, unfortunately. Should I take a look around Google for different drivers?

hi there,

When you said the came crashes during gameplay, do you mean it closes itself automatically and you need to relaunch it again?

As per this release notes, the flickering issue should be solved but if the game closes by itself or hangs / freezes during gameplay, try to:

1. .Run the game in Vista Compatibility Mode

    - Sample image

2. (Optional) Try adjusting the game's video resolution and if you're playing in Full Screen mode, try Window Mode and observe.

3. Try the -novsync parameter (see this article).

Regards

Re: Texture Flickering on Halo 2 Vista

My game does have lag spikes with the new driver, and doesn't respond after about 15 minutes of gameplay. I did the steps you recommended me to do, but using Windows Vista Compatibility doesn't open my game. I also tried all the service packs. Reinstalling the driver had no luck on me either. Are there any other driver installation methods I should try doing?
