Unable to access BIOS - Lenovo G580 (2689)

2013-01-12, 10:14 AM

Hi,

I installed Windows 8 (64bit) on my new Lenovo G580 laptop which originally had DOS OS.

After Windows 8 installation, I am unable to access BIOS settings when pressing F2 nor able to see boot menu when pressing F12 during machine startup.

I also checked the advanced boot menu of Windows 8 which has safe mode and other options. Still no where I find an option to enter BIOS or update the Boot sequence of my laptop.

Please assist!!

Thanks,

Bhavin

Hi,

I had this problem but it's actually not a fault, just a different way of doing things in Windows 8.

I'm not on my Win 8 machine at the moment so can't check the exact sequence to follow, but I think it if you go into the charm bar, click pc settings, then advanced, there are some options in that menu for allowng the F2 button to work when booting.  I enabled it and was able to see the F2 option on rebooting and access the bios.

Sorry if you've already tried this.  There's a thread on here giving more precise instructions, if you can find it!

If you still can't enter the BIOS try the following. Take out the laptop battery and place it back in, than start the PC with the Arrow button next to the Power button - it offers you the option to enter BIOS. :) It worked with my G580 when I took it to the service after 5 hours of not being able to enter the BIOS.
