Wifi Card whitelist compatibility by FRU number

I want to upgrade my PCIe wifi card, the hardware maintance manual lists the following card as compatible/whitelisted:
"WLAN, Intel 7260 2×2AC+BT PCIE HMC WLAN" with FRU: 20200388 (04W3814), but for example the exact same card can also be found with 20200555 (04X6010), some other FRU numbers and of course without any lenovo related number.

The question is, is the whitelist just locked to wifi card model "Intel 7260" and any of these can be used, even a plain card without lenovo number or is it locked to the exact FRU number.

Re: Wifi Card whitelist compatibility by FRU number

Hi Start1,

Greetings.

As per observations and some attempts shows that both FRU and OEM part number are considered specially with cpu, wlan and battery.

Other set conditions may not be too restrictive so non OEM may still run in some instances but to guarantee a part to be recognized, it is suggested to choose among the OEM whitelisted parts as declared in the manual.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards
