Windows 10 OEM licence

2019-12-19, 3:18 AM

My Lenovo G series laptop came with Windows 8.1 which automatically got upgraded to Windows 10 however it crashed after starting laptop post installation of patch 1903. Lenovo website and call center expressed their inability to provide license. How do I get my OEM Winows 10 License

If you were upgraded to 10, your win 8 credentials for that motherboard were stored on a license server by microsoft..  If you simply install 10 again, it will activate automatically.

Thanks Rich for a prompt response, let me try this out during this weekend and update back.

Note - For Windows 10 installation, one needs to create bootable USB drive, boot with it, installation shl continue. Trust this is inline, novice in this aspect and don't want to trust posts on Internet, its better to ask OEMs only hence posting it

Just an FYI - Windows OEM license only covers the initial installation, any upgrades to hardware that change the hardware too much will result in the OEM license failing to activate, and a new license will be needed.

Suggestion - if you have to replace hardware make sure to use an exact duplicate, instead of an upgrade option.

To re-install windows 10 to a computer, boot from DVD (ISO obtained from Microsoft) and pay attention to the installation screens. You will see a prompt near the bottom of the page asking you if you are re-installing windows.

Good luck.
