g500 has "limited connectivity" no wifi

2014-09-09, 3:50 AM

Just bought a new router - netgear n750. Laptop wifi worked fine with previous router that went bad.  All other devices now work with new router (ps3, ipad, kindle, netbook). But, laptop internet only worked hard wired to router. Wireless it says "limited connectivity" and something about the gateway.  I have googled and tried much. Reinstalled adapter drivers.  Many posts said to update direct from intel, but it is not an intel adapter. It is qualcom.  Redid that from the lenovo site.  What is the deal?  So frustrating!

Oh, when you run the fix it thing it ends up saying something about the gateway.

Well as I said in the original post we went to the Lenovo site and reinstalled the the wireless adapter drivers. Is there a different way to do that?

have you tried to use manual ip configuration instead of dhcp? ( search the forum for further information )
it just could be a router/password problem. you should set your password to 8 character and/or upgrade the firmware.

Yes, I read about putting in the ip manually, but the directions I found were for windows 7 instead of 8. So I think I did that but not 100% sure that I did it right. Whatever I did didn't help.

The router password came with the router and has been reentered/checked to be sure it was put in the computer correctly.
I don't know what that means to set password to 8 character or upgrade firmware.

We have researched and researched and read a lot of things online about people with this problem and what seems to have worked for most is to update the adapter drivers from intel, but our adapter is not intel it's qualcom.

This laptop is not even a year old, and the router is brand new. So frustrating that so much effort is required to get a basic task (wifi) to work!!

Is there a way to contact Lenovo and ask for help? I couldn't find a way to do that.

Sure. It say 6.30.223.102  under broadcom 802.11n wireless adapter.  When you click on the "update driver" button it searches online and then says "windows has determined your drivers are up to date".  However, we also uninstalled it, went to the lenovo site and reinstalled.  That was the same version. Couldn't find any other version to try.

The info listed under the wireless is:

SSID netgear78

protocol 802.11n

security type wpa-2 personal

IPv6 DNS servers

    fec0:0:0:ffff1%1

    fec0:0:0:ffff2%1

    fec0:0:0:ffff3%1

IPv4 address 192.168.1.2

manufacturer broadcom

driver 6.30.223.102

physical address 3C-77-E6-B1-C323

the wired connection says

IPv4 address 192.168.1.3

IPv4 DNS servers 192.168.1.1

man qualcomm atheros

driver 2.1.0.2.1

physical address 20-1A-06-2E-2E-C0

Does any of that tell you anything that might be wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Anyone who can help me figure this out? It shows that yellow triangle with the black exclamation point in it. Seems to be a not uncommon problem from googling and seeing others with the same problem. Must be somewhere in the laptop to change this.
