I have a Lenovo g500 with windows 8.0
Sudenly this month the sound started to stop.
This happens when I start the laptop
or if it wakes from standby.
The sound is restored only after a restart.
What is happening?> how can i fix this>?
I have already tryied microsoft solutions and tested all the services that start with windows start.
But the problem seems to be irrelevent with the services.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I will need to you to alter two settings inthe PC
One is to Enable the Hybrid Sleep
Second is to disable the fast startup.
Then check and observe the sound on your pc.

Open Device Manager and under Sound and gaming controller, Right click and Uninstall the Conexant audio
Be sure to place a check under delte driver software prompt.
Restart the Pc and install this driver based on your Operting system version.
CONEXANT Audio Driver WIndows 8.1
Conexant Audio Driver Windows 7
Conexant Audio Driver for 64-bit Windows Windows 8

I am having the same problem.
The sound is temporarily restored after waking up from sleep mode, but after a while there's just no sound.
The problem started to manifest itself a few days ago.
One time I noticed that all sound had stopped, except the Windows test sound still worked. However, most of the time the Windows test sound doesn't play either.
Might be worth noting that a few days prior to noticing this issue I had updated my BIOS because my CPU fan would randomly stop working until I did a system reboot (which no longer occurs, thankfully). If you happened to have done the same, it might be a BIOS issue and I would suggest downgrading to the version you had before this started happening.
I'm reinstalling the Conexant drivers now, I'll let you know how that works out.

Reinstalling the Conexant driver did nothing.
However, when I uninstalled the Conexant driver the audio device was listed as "High Definition Audio-device" instead of "Conexant HD Audio", and that one does seem to work.

FIX FIX FIX! I have been having the same problem with a Lenovo IdeaPad. I have found posts with same problem on Dell, HP, Lenovo and ASUS forums. Seems to be the latest W8 update. Solution seems to be upgrade to 8.1 or uninstall that particular update (and go to Manual Updates, and do not reinstall that update, until it is fixed.) I uninstalled the update and I have sound again! Hope it works for you, too:
Update KB2962407, which that states it fixes "Shortened battery life when an idle audio device is not turned off on a computer running Windows".
You do not have to do a System Restore to get rid of the Updates; easier to go to Windows Update, View Update History. On the top of that screen, click on Installed Updates. Then just right-click the update you want to uninstall.

I have same problems audio suddenly doesn't work only if i restart, and this cause major lag in games.
I've looked into the installed updates but i don't find the mentioned update to unninstall...i have win 8.1 with all updates from june integrated into the windows. Is there a way for me to unninstall the problematic update?
I've tried to install windows 7 thinking it was a driver problem but the problem was still there.
