lenovo g505 new harddrive and windows 7 install. Cant boot from any media?

I can start the pc and the disk drive spins up and then nothing, just a blinking '_' in the top left corner. Same thing with a USB. I cant get anywhere with it, and i cant enter the bios. 

managed to boot from the flashdrive but i cant begin the install now, getting the drivers missing error when the option to select install location comes up.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums

 

I’m sorry to hear that your G505 Laptop is not recognizing the HDD (Hard Disc Drive) for installing Windows 7 OS (Operating System) and BIOS is not accessible in the computer. I suggest you to check if the HDD is detected in BIOS menu, to enter BIOS menu turn OFF the computer and then press the NOVO button which is located beside the Power Button and select BIOS utility.

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

 

This should be accessible by pressing the NOVO button and making changes in BIOS or F12 to access the Boot from device menu directly.
