"Plugged in not charging" only charges when turned off G50-70

I am working on a Lenovo G50-70 laptop that Only charges the battery when the computer is turned off. When the computer is turned on it shows "plugged in not charging" Also the battery continuously drains while the computer is turned on and the computer will not turn on with just the cord.

I tested with 3 different OEM cords same result.

I tested it with a new charging port.

I tested it with a OEM battery from another laptop

I tested it with a new drive/clean install of windows 10 samething

I am wondering if the bios had an update that caused this (not my computer so I don't know if a bios update was installed)

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Are the older bios installers still available from Lenovo? Unless someone has another suggestion I'll have to keep looking for an older copy to install.

Hi TechMasterLJ! Welcome to our forums community. Could you try these steps:

-Disconnect Power Supply
-Remove battery.
-Connect Power Supply
-Turn on the laptop.
-Control Panel - Device Manager.
-Under the Batteries category, right-click all instances of Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control -Method Battery , and Uninstall.
-Shutdown.
-Disconnect Power Supply.
-Insert battery.
-Connect Power Supply.
-Turn on the laptop

Update us with the result.

Re: "Plugged in not charging" only charges when turned off G50-70

I finally found a bios update file from Lenovo and installed that however still no change.
Turns out I was right from the start. It was the charging port both the original and the replacement did the same thing But after trying all of the above I tried a 3rd charging port and the system started working again. Doesn't seem logical that a port would cause it to only charge the battery when powered off but it is working now!

If the charging port is a "module" that contains circuitry, it could be "smart" enough to have logic or control paths to switch between the input and from battery power. If that logic is scrambled or "stuck" it could explain things.
