3000 J105 wont boot up!

2008-05-13, 22:19 PM
Help!  I have been given a 3000 Series J105 desktop and when you go to boot it up it says checksum error and wont go any further, it just beeps like mad.

I have tried updating teh bios but half the timee the floppy i attached does nothing after initially firing up- sometimes i get a stripey orange and blue screen, and sometimes I get the flash utility that says the system is unrecognised and to restart the pc!!

I am at a total loss... I understand there is a 'special bios recovery' disc but have no idea how to find it... all I can find is the normal flash disc image.  I have tried the CD flash too and that does nothing other than start to boot and then give the unrecognised error!

Someone please help.

I think maybe it's the Bios Battery that might have gone bad , Does Bios kick in at all? If it does not then it points to the battery.

Bios is delete of F3 key in the beginning of starting the computer Lenovo screen...

Well, after wiggling stuff etc I put the RAM chip in the other slot and it booted, although it bombed on every windows start up and attempted re-install...

So I popped in a RAM chip from my other pc and voila!  So aparently it was a bad memory module!  Thanks for trying to help though.:smileyhappy:

Well the piece of junk is doing it again!

Now it wont boot if i have a usb mouse plugged in!  Boot first then plug the mouse in and it all works - restart and it stops at the white lenovo screen with the fans on full!  Take out usb mouse, power off then on and it boots again ... then plus mouse in after windows loads and its ok again - what's worng with this bloody thing?!
