Lenovo Stick 300 TPM encryption

2016-09-02, 16:32 PM

One advantage of the Lenovo Stick 300 over (at least the low end) Intel Compute Sticks, is that the Lenovo Stick 300 (at least the 90F20001UK model) is that it has TPM chip.  That means that it supports transparent SSD encryption/decryption in Windows 10 using BitLocker.

As things stand right now, you have to upgrade your copy of Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Professional.  Once you do that, you can turn on BitLocker and encrypt your SSD.  I did that and it works fine!

This doesn't protect against viruses or someone discovring your WIndows password, but it does protect against someone getting your Stick, booting another OS from the USB slot, and then recovering your data.

As of Intel's recent BIOS update to some of their low-end Compute Sticks, they now also support a TPM module and can run BitLocker.
