Need help with Processor upgrade.

2009-03-12, 13:43 PM

I have a Lenovo 3000 J Series Desktop. The model # is 738759U.

It has an AMD Athlon  64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30Ghz

I would like to upgrade the processor but I am not totally sure what to purchase. I was checking Newegg.com and it seems they may have several options, but again I am not sure exactly what AMD CPU will work in this machine, I am not all too familiar with AMD processors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Run CPU-Z. Post what is displayed on the Mainboard tab under Chipset. Your chipset is what determines compatibility with processors.

You are basically looking for a processor that is supported by the Geforce 6100 and nForce 410 chipset. I'm not sure how it is with AMD as I mainly use Intel components, but I will try to find some more information to help you make a decision.

I just went scanning through the different configurations of the J115, the model you have, and discovered that some configurations were offered with Athlon 64 X2 4600+, 4800+, and possibly the 5000+ processor. Don't know if that's the highest you can go. OEMs don't release enough information for an owner to determine what's the maximum possible upgrade for components.
