Software problems

I am not very good with technical troubles, but maybe someone out there can help me. I have had my Lenovo (3000 J Series) since 2006, and have not had problems until lately. I had to do a system restore, back to factory settings, and tonight I tried to update to I.E.8. When it was finished downloading, it says there is a problem with Win 32, and could not continue. Do I use my rescue disk again? What is it? The reason I wiped the hard drive was it had become unstable, and my I.E. was not  working. Also, I had M. S. Office 2003 on here, and now since the factory settings, I have Corel Small Business! I don't want that, every document  and spread sheet I own is done with M.S. Office! I really hate that they don't give you the actual CD's with programs on them, with my internet down, I have been helpless.Can anyone out there tell me what to do to get my computer back???
