Fingerprint scanner functioning erratically

2021-04-06, 17:31 PM

I have a Yoga C640. The fingerprint scanner on my device works sometimes.

At others, it takes:

- 4-5 secs to verify the fingerprint

- does not sense the finger at all

I tried updating the drivers, but they seem to be up-to date. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello @ perpetuallyperp!

Thanks for posting here at the Community Forums!

Does the issue started to happen after an update?

Try to uninstall the Fingerprint driver that's located in Device Manager and restart the device.

After that, reinstall the Fingerprint driver that's found on the Lenovo site.

Click this link to download/install the driver, restart the device and setup the Fingerprint feature again and test it if it will now work properly.

You may also follow the steps found on this link for additional troubleshooting steps.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks,

Thank you for the prompt response!

I've had the issue even before running updates on my laptop.

I followed your advice and uninstalled the fingerprint scanner & reinstalled it with the drivers. Now it seems to work, but the lag (4-5 sec taken to verify fingerprint) is still there. Any plausible reasons for that?

It's good to know that the fingerprint scanner is now working!

As for the fingerprint to load or to take effect within 4 or 5 seconds, check if the fingerprint scanner (hardware) itself is clean from any dust or small particles (and even sweat) that blocks it from functioning properly.

Also, try enrolling a different fingerprint and see if you'll get the same response.

Should the above steps didn't provide any improvements, you may proceed in performing a clean boot to your Yoga C640 though make sure to backup the files that you have on the device to avoid any data loss that might occur.

You may click on this link to see the steps on how to do it.

Thanks,
