yeah. After more days with my G550 I discovered that the pc only gets warm when I have it in my lap. If I place it on a table then it does not get warm at all.

Yes, the solution fixed the problem with the fan running in 30 sec, stop for 30 sec, etc. But I still have a problem with the fan. If I e.g.. just play a mp3 file then the fan will stop for 4-5 min, run for 30 sec, stop for 4-5 min, etc (even do I turn off the screen). That is ok if I put music on, but annoying if I listen to an audio book. If I play a mpeg2 file using VCL then the fan is on all the time (in this case I an watching the movie on the TV using the HDMI output) . And if I run a program in the background that will record to a mpeg2 file from an USB Tuner then the fan is also on all the time.

I do not know if my problem is a Windows7 problem or a Lenovo problem, but my guess is that it is a windows7 problem and I hope to get an update soon.

Re: G550 fan problem

Hi everyone,

I was reading this post for a past few days before I bought Lenovo G550 notebook. I was worried about the noise and fan issues but anyway I guessed that these problems belong to NVIDIA graphic chip and my choice was Intel GMA 4500M.

I own the notebook only for the past 4 days but heard no any noises from the fan.

My configuration is

Lenovo G550 <59028128> T4300(2.1)/2048/250/DVD-RW/WiFi/WiMAX/cam/Win7HB

Re: G550 fan problem

Ok. I've just bought a lenovo g550 with an intel x4500: the same problem. I just posted here and asking if this thing is present on the integrated intel graphics. Nobody said anything about the intel graphics, just one post regarding the dedicated graphics after mine. Too bad for me I guess :(. It is a shame. The notebook is very good built. A very good  keyboard, good build quality for this price. The fan just kicks in every 30,40 seconds at maximum rpm suddenly when the cpu is below 10% usage. It is imposible to work at this computer. You get a headache in a matter of minutes. I don't understand even why this thing happens: the notebook is very cool, but the fan screams very loud WITH NO PURPOSE WHEN IT COULD HAVE RUNNED AT LOWER RPM FOR MORE TIME. Lenovo's engineers or the people that are resposible for QA should be fired just for this. This is unacceptable. It is like building/designing a very good car and making it out of paper instead of using average materials. Too bad, Lenovo :(:( BTw, I'm from Romania. another third world country I guess :)

System specs:

Lenovo g550: t4300, 3GB, Intel gma4500( no HD), 320GB Hdd

It means that the bios doesn't support fan control.

So speedfan doesn't work neither any other fan controling software until a new bios is released

Ok. This is more than enough for me. Stay away from the g550s!!! Now I get scarred every time that i hear the word "Lenovo". I don't think that that they are able to fix this, they would've come up with a bios fix by now. I think that they've completly messed up this product. Lenovo is not IBM and they don't care about their customers!!!!!
