Re: G550 fan problem SOLVED

Mark,

I updated my Windows 7 x64 with the BETA 2.51 bios update you provided.  Do I still need to/should I update to the version on the support website?  It is also listed as 2.51.

Thanks.

yitzyb,

I would not re-flash with the version on the web.   If it is working well now, I would leave it alone.

Mark

Hi Mark,

I don't know what was previous version of bios. Machine was fully charged running on AC power.
No other programs were running and there were no devices connected to computer. Everything went ok, flash application checked previous and new bios compatibility, backed up old bios, wrote new one and rebooted windows.

After reboot it froze with black screen. I was fully aware of possible consequences and took all precautions before running bios upgrade.

Thanks you for your reply.

Dear Mark_Lenovo,

What about costumers how own the G550 with Nvidia G210M  ? As was said before in other posts - the bios update  does not help at all. It increases the temprature threshold to 48 degress and then the fan increasing its speed. Please tell us if you or other Lenovo representatives are planning to fix this issue soon.

No way that more than 4 month after posting this issue in the official Lenovo forum and still there is no answer for it.

Thank you.

Downloaded the new bios this evening.  Went to flash, and advised needed to be plugged in an full battery, so left charging turned off.  Turned on again 2 hours later, and ran fine. Prompted to restart computer with count down, let count down reboot, and restarted to a black screen.  Only power light and three volume lights now.  I have left it on now for over an hour and same black screen.

Was updating bios do to fan problem, and also hope for the touch pad, as sometimes it just goes off the deep end.  Guess I learned my leason.

Help!

I also need to know about this update for the nvidia 210m, with Windows x 32 bit. Is it working? Does the fan problem dissapear? The machine produces more heat or not? I'm waiting answers from Mark and from those of you that have updated the bios and own the Gpu nvidia 210m and windows x 32 bit! Thank you all!

Hi All,

Do you mind to share with us some machine details so we could drill down together the possible root cause?

  • Machine Type Model (e.g. 4446-38U)
  • Chipset model and driver version
  • Bios version prior to this v2.51 update

Some forum members commented they saw only power light on after reboot apart from black screen. What else did you notice? Did the machine respond such as fan's running after hard reset?

Regards,

Cleo
