After flashing a new bios, I can't see difference... The fan still goes off every 5-6 min. I am going to observe to see the pattern, but it's definitely not "quiet"

Re: G550 BIOS Update failure

2010-05-04, 16:04 PM

Mark:

       Tried to contact support, but have received no response.  I have an in-warranty G550 that is now bricked after a failed attempt to upgrade the BIOS.  I had previously upgraded to Win 7 Home 64 bit without issue, from the stock Vista Home 64.  Is there something I can do that would avoid long delays in return to service.  I am a DBA with hardware experience, and have access to qualified techs.

Re: G550 BIOS Update failure

I had the same problem with the last bios update. All the users that tried to update on 64bits OS had the same problem. I guess Lenovo didn't learn anything from last experience. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is to send it to service in order to change the motherboard. There isn't any way to re-write the bios or change it after update failure. Trust me, i tried. It will take aprox 1 week. After that experience i learned to live with the noise, and i won't do an update anymore. Lenovo service isn't trustworthy.

Can anyone tell me how this new version operates on fan m...

2010-05-07, 13:37 PM

Can anyone tell me how this new version operates on fan managment?

I really can't see any differences. The temp. is set on a higher level than previos version when the fan starts to run? If anyone has monitored the correlation between temp and the fan management in the previos version 2.51 and for the newest version and sees any differences, please explain them, cause I can't see no change on how the fan operates.

Thanks.

Re: G550 fan problem

2010-05-07, 16:31 PM

First of all i have to thank Mark_Lenovo for all his efforts getting those computers corrupted by 64-bit bios updates serviced.

Lenovo sent mine to Anovo repair center which took them 5 weeks to change its motherboard, meanwhile they also decided to replace my HD with another brand (Hitachi) for no reason. My earlier WD was working perfectly. I don't know why they did that and i have asked them what the reason could be but i got no response.

I noticed newer bios updates has been available through Lenovo's site, this time i wouldn't risk anything so i made a second partition on my HD and installed Win 7 32-bit on it just for the purpose to be able to run 32-bit bios update through it and it worked all fine.

I "think" that Lenovo has solved the 64-bit bios update because they have it for download on their site, BUT still i can't risk to brick my computer again, so i will have to continue installing 32 bit Win 7 on another partition just to flash, better to be safe than sorry.

to all of you asking what the newer bios updates has solved i suggest you take a look at the changelogs which are posted, you have to read what has changed.

18CN44WW(V2.53):
1. Fixed hang issue on Windows bar.

18CN43WW(V2.52):
1. Added Realtek LAN support.

The answer to your questions, NO the fan switch has not changed since version 2.51 as you can see.
