Lenovo 3000 V100 getting heated up, abrupt shutdown, battery drained.

2008-11-03, 5:14 AM

My machine is 24 months old. After 10-12 months only and till now it shuts down abruptly without any warning. Although the windows starts without diagnostics. The laptop gets hot unusually even when it runs on battery. The battery power has drained. It holds charge fo around 25-30 min. only. I usually take out the battery and run on ac adapter. Is it the problem of the machine or something can be done to fix it. It is very frustrating. I am not the one who keeps changing laptop so i would like to fix my laptop. Pls advise.

The battery might be dead, as 2 years is good service period for any rechargeable battery. You might want to buy a new battery.

'Laptop getting heated' has many reasons, including faulty battery and irregular AC voltage. Use regulated UPS AC supply or at least a voltage spike guard. Use programs like 'notebook hardware control'(google it to obtain free setup) to monitor CPU and other hardware loads/speed/temperatures. Customize it with a caution (use defaults) -  as it might lead to overheating if misused.

Carry out Lenovo 'system updates', particularly any drivers, BIOS and other major hardware related updates.

Hi Mark,

I face the same problem. The laptop will start without any diagnostics but will abruptly shutdown without any warning within a minute. I have been running it on adapter for the last two months as the battery went dead one fine day & I couldn't buy a new one. Let me know if replacing the battery will solve the problem or the problem has spread too far now? The Customer Support associate told me that probably its motherboard problem which they can look as a chargeable service.

These are the further details – System Model - 3000N100 06895KA

Any help is highly appreciated from your end. Thanks
