Lenovo N500 - Rescue & Recovery - women & questions

2009-01-14, 20:44 PM

Hello people :)

I've few questions - perhaps it will be helpfull for others.

So...

I've Lenovo N500 (NS47Axx = 4233-4AG). On my HDD are 3 partitions:
1) C (SW_Preload)
2) S (SERVICE_003) free 666MB/1,46GB
3) Q (Lenovo) free 3,72/9,76 GB

( 1.Q What is difference (in content) between S: and Q: ? )

2.Q If I made any changes (for example add any file or folder) on S SERVICE_003, and than burn Disc Recover (by click on Q: Lenovo) - my changes on S: will be burned on CD and DVDs Rescue ? Or they leave on HDD, but CD and DVD will be "oryginally" fresh - untouched? ;)

3.Q If I made any changes on S: SERVICE_003 (as above), and than restore my system to "recover hdd disc to factory state" (by using One Care Button after BIOS screen) - remain changes on S: SERVICE_003 ?

4.Q If I use "recover to factory settings" (from HDD Rescue and Recovery application, no burned CD/DVDs) partition S SERVICE_003 will be too "reset" to "original"-manufacturs state? (so identycal before my changes = so after this operation I haven't my changes (files) on this partition)?

5.Q If I use recovery CD/DVDs to restore my HDD to factory contents - partion S: SERVICE_003 is too restored to factory settings? Or leave unchanged? (so identically question as above, but now I'm using DVDs to recover content of my disc)

6.Q MAIN: What I have to do, If have too really "reset" content my HDD (all partitions: C, S and Q) to idenatically state as I  have before first running my notebook? I must use Recovery to Factory settings (from HDD or DVD)? Or before I must "cleare" disc by formatting all partitions and than use recovery from DVD?

Sorry for my extreme bad english :(
I'm women so I don't know good computers ;) , but I really need this informations :(

I really need your help (answers) - I'm waiting for reply :)

Thanx a lot!

I wouldn't touch these two partitions - because if you really wil need to recover your laptop from some errors - you will need that all. So - leave them be. If you donn't want them to appear on your windows explorer - there is nice application called Ptedit32. If you want it - i will send it to you.

Very good questions Lady Wolf! :)

Your english is not bad, so I'm with you.

Strangely, I downloaded WinTV for my usb stick TV and miracalously it ended up backed up on the security and restore drives, i didn't place it there!

So we really would appreciate an explantion of how this works!!!

right:

1. Difference is that one (i don't remember which one) is for lenovo utilities recovery - other for Operating system and everything what comes with it.

2. I don't know for sure - but 95% that recovery DVD's will be "fresh" and "untouched"  - but as I said before - make a recovery DVD's and forget about these partitions.

3. Depends what changes are you making - if you will delete or move something - recovery will not work. If you will add some files  - i don't think that it would affect anything.

4. Don't know

5. Everything will be as it was from factory (shop)  including all trial progarmms (like antivirus, some photo editing and bla...bla..bla...)

6. Don't format anything!!!!!!!!! first make recovery Dvd's using lenovo recovery application. Then use the lenovo recovery button and do whatever it asks you to do. I haven't used it on lenovo so i don't know how excatly it will work but recovery dvd's usually will make your laptop excatly as it was from shop. BUT - do what ever you want but never format S and Q partitions - if you do - then start looking for pirated operating system and start download drivers for your laptop from lenovo website - and that is a very time consuming fun...

besides - beeing a women is not an excuse :D

P.S. I do understand that information I gave is very general - but it is better than nothing :) I own this laptop too but thanks god I don't need recovery option yet :D But I have been through that when I formated Service partition on my other computer - that was a fun... almost...
