Maximum ammount of RAM supported for the Lenovo V130-15IKB

Hello!

I have a Lenovo V130-15IKB and was wondering exactly what the maximum ammount of RAM supported is?

Some websites tell me that 12GB is the maximum but other websites tell me that 20GB is the maximum supported.

These are all the websites:

Kingston website (20GB maximum):

https://www.kingstonmemoryshop.co.uk/laptop/lenovo/v130-series/lenovo-v130-15ikb-15-laptop

Crucial website 1 (12GB maximum):

https://uk.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/lenovo/lenovo-v130-15ikb

Crucial website 2 (20GB maximum):

https://uk.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/lenovo/lenovo-v310-15ikb

Lenovo website (12GB maximum):

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-v-series-laptops/v130-15ikb/81hn/parts/display/compatible

Mr Memory website (12GB maximum):

https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/lenovo/laptop/v130-15ikb

Memory Cow website (20GB maximum):

https://www.memorycow.co.uk/laptop/lenovo/v130-series/lenovo-v130-15ikb-15-laptop

The Lenovo website shows the compatible parts only up to 8GB which would only bring the computer up to 12GB with the soldered 4GB memory.

On the Kingston website I found the part that is supposedly compatible:

Kingston KCP424SD8/16 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz Non ECC Memory RAM SODIMM

I have also tried Crucial's system scanner which comes back saying 12GB is the maximum ammount supported.

I would just like to know for definite if 12GB is the maximum or if I can have 20GB. I wouldn't want to buy the 16GB stick (for 20GB) to possibly break the computer somehow...? Or for it to just not work.

I currently have 12GB RAM installed (8GB module by Crucial) which I purchaced off of Amazon about a month ago.

Thank you everyone! I've been researching for a while I just wouldn't want to risk breaking the computer somehow by putting too much RAM into it....?

Thank you again! :)

Hi thisismygamerta,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Officially from the manufacturer that tested and certified the performance of the model is 12 GB as shown here and likewise offered:

- 12GB max / 2133MHz DDR4, dual-channel capable, 4GB memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket

Others may claim going beyond it to total it to 20GB with 16GB placed on the single slot so here you get the resellers guarantee instead of Lenovo.

If you really need 20GB then perhaps it is the option you may want to explore but since 16GB is a bit costly then best to check the return options of the sellers and their guarantee just in case.

You will not break the machine doing this since it may work and if not then goes BSOD or not POST at all or not recognize the added ram.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re:Maximum ammount of RAM supported for the Lenovo V130-15IKB

Oh thank you spidey101!

That makes sense now.

I haven't really upgraded RAM in a computer in a long time now so I used to just buy what the manual stated was compatible and go from there.

16GB is quite costly but it should come down in price one day. I think I'll try it once it gets a bit cheaper just in case it really doesn't work well.

Thanks again!!

Note that the second link is for a different model. That may explain why there's a difference in maximum RAM.

Note also that according to Lenovo_V130_15IKB_Spec.PDF this model can come with a variety of CPUs ranging from Celeron to 8th generation i7. It's possible that the higher end processors and related chipsets may support 16GB in the expansion RAM slot. You might want to Google on Lenovo V130-15IKB and include the CPU type in your system to see if anyone has reported their experience in this regard.

My comments are mine. I don't work for or speak for Lenovo.

Oh yes I didn't see the models were slightly different from each over... Thank you! Completely missed that somehow...

My computer has a Intel i7 7th generation but I'll have try that! I didn't realise that it went down to a Celeron but that makes sense. Thank you very much for all the help!

Tengo la notebook y lo maximo que soporta es 12 de ram ya que lo máximo que podes agregar es un peine de 8Gb, mas no lo reconoce y no arranca la computadora.

Con procesador core I3 de 2.4ghz.
