Re: No Bluetooth control in Fn+F5 Menu

2008-05-05, 8:09 AM
Why does no Lenovo member reply to this post any longer?

It is nearly on top of the board now for months, but no one seems to read it...

As you can see: the Function is by design, because it works with preinstalled Vista and drivers.
It also seems to work on XP, at least with the Broadcom drivers.

But it definitly doesn't work on any clean Vista install, neither 32 nor 64 bit.

So PLEASE could you ask your development-section to further investigate about this issue and find a solution...

Re: No Bluetooth control in Fn+F5 Menu

I find it very interesting that we were told the following by Mark (of Lenovo):

"If someone has an instance where this isn't the case (where it ever worked on the 3000, or is doccumented in the Lenovo pubs that it is supposed to)  I'll go back and revisit the issue with them, but at this point, the official answer is that this is working as designed."

And when I provided the requested reference to Lenovo's own help files (that are preinstalled with the machine) we haven't heard from anyone from Lenovo since. We've standardized on Lenovo laptops (previously IBM ThinkPads) in our company, and as a decision maker on IT purchases in our company I was testing out the Lenovo 3000 v200 series product line personally which I am sorry to say is a complete dissappointment (abysmal battery life even with the extended battery). The response (or lack thereof) by Lenovo to this seemingly simple problem has us seriously evaluating other notebook vendors such as Toshiba and Sony.

Yes, some Lenovo employees do read and post to this forum.  Mark is quite active, and several others post as well.  In addition, there are lurkers who just read without making public comments although sometimes they ask the mod team to either gather more information or pass along advice.

However, here are the expectations of their participation from the Welcome message:

These communities have been created to provide a high quality atmosphere in which users of Lenovo products and services may share experiences and expertise. While members from Lenovo may participate at intervals to engage in the discussions and offer advice and suggestions, this forum is not designed as a dedicated and staffed support channel.

The bottom line is there's no guarantee that you will get an answer to a question here directly from Lenovo.

On the other hand, you just might!  ;-)

All,

Sorry - yes, we are still working on this, but it has been a lower priority for me compared to some other issues.

Thanks for the remind - I'll move this back up the list.   I've not posted, because we have found some apparently conflicting documentation and were working through it to find the right answer.

Given your experiences, obviously, the previous answer I posted was inaccurate or incomplete.

I'll be back later in the week with an update.

Mark

I encounter a similar problem where I couldn't activate my wireless connection. Instead of using Fn+F5 (which indicates Wireless Connection), I tried Fn+F6 (that indicates Bluetooth) and it solved my problem.

Not sure whether it was a real problem or is it just me that I don't know how to activate it.

Version 3.52 of Access Connections included this change:
"(Fix) Unable to disable Bluetooth Radio." See http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-42596.html

It used to work, now it doesn't. Version 4.52 of Access Connections seems to be missing a few changes. Mark, perhaps you might ask the engineers if 4.52 was an inadvertent giant leap backwards in some respects. A branch of the code might have inadvertently gotten rolled-back in the compile or something.

I get this wierd Access Connections "PRINTFF" dialog popping up every few minutes since upgrading to 4.52. It wasn't a good update...

I have recently put my V100 back to factory defaults (Windows XP). I can confirm that I could toggle both Wifi and Bluetooth using Fn+F5.

I have recently installed  Broadcom Bluetooth Drivers 5.0.1.1200. Now I can at least disable bluetooth in the tray menu:smileyhappy:

That's under Windows XP, right? It can't be done under Vista.
