Re: Notebook "stalls" on startup

2008-09-11, 13:38 PM

Here's the reply I got from the Lenovo technical guys on this issue. I find an automated response absolving all responsibility for a known fault, evidenced by a 7 page forum thread, quite unacceptable. There is no clear indication in this thread if this fault is hardware or software based. Even if software based, if the software is faulty and is causing the computer to die within the 1 year statutory guarantee then the responsibility for remedy still lies with Lenovo.

I hope this response has been sent in error:

"Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Lenovo. Lenovo provides free software support for the first 30 days after the purchase of the machine.
Lenovo provides free hardware support during the warranty period which is only provided by phone.

Your system indicates it is beyond its Software warranty period of 30 days. To obtain software support which will be billable or to obtain free hardware Support, please phone the Technical HelpCentre of your country. Please check the following Web site for the Worldwide HelpCenter Phone List:

You also have free access to all of the BIOS and driver updates for any computer type, as well as numerous hints and tips, frequently asked questions and technical publications by visiting the link at the bottom of this note and entering the machine type/model number (e.g., 2611-450 or 9546-U4A, etc.) into the Quick Path box.We hope you find the support information on the web site to be a helpful resource.

I've just had exactly the same response from my email support request.  I'm not impressed.  If this is the kind of support we get from Lenovo...... I wouldn't buy one of their products again.

Still no answer from anyone on this fault.

Hello All,

New to this thread.

Of course I can't be sure if we have/had similar problems, but please read my thread and the solution I found. I sincerely hope it helps many of the fellow lenovo sufferers I've read about on this and other forums. The thread is entitled : "battery and AC power problems = laptop won't start". Below is the link.

Best of Luck to All and Cheers!

Thanks for the help Notfunny, but I don't think this is the same issue. My lenovo appears to be properly powered and charged etc. but is cutting out or looping on the startup sequence - see above.

Still looking for US based volunteer...

Appreciate the UK based offer Yangtze, and if we can co-ordinate with a senior tech team there, I may take you up on this.

I will focus on this issue this week.

Mark

MANY THANKS for looking at this Mark. At the moment I have a very attractive doorstop instead of a laptop!

Don :)

Re: Notebook "stalls" on startup

I have the same problem like yangtze - computers loads up only from the third time or more. Interesting fact is: when it is loaded it works all fine, I can restart, shut down, put on sleep and turn on again. But when  computer is shout down for a few hours it is not loading normally again (needs to heat up? :smileyvery-happy:  ). I have used full recovery for a few times but it not helped. I watched recent recovery process closely and there was few errors. I can't tell what type of problem that was, but I saw something like "write error - directory already exists" and others (it have disappeared quickly from log). Maybe if I'll try to install XP it would work fine?
