I have the same problem like yangtze - computers loads up only from the third time or more. Interesting fact is: when it is loaded it works all fine, I can restart, shut down, put on sleep and turn on again. But when  computer is shout down for a few hours it is not loading normally again (needs to heat up? :smileyvery-happy:  ).

Me too, exactly the same.  Laptop is 3 months old.  Called Lenovo support 2 days ago and they said they would call back but not heard anything yet.

I'm happy to send my lappy off to Lenovo UK if they want it.

It's some kind a global problem for Lenovo computers.

Could you tell what type of model your laptop is (Can find under your laptop)? It is interesting if this problem for one specific type of computer or for all computers?

N.B. My model is Lenovo 3000 N200 0769

Hmm... It looks like this is problem only with 0769 model.

I bought it in Lithuania, but it seems that this problem is global (at least in Europe).

My laptop is also a N200 0769... seems to be a recurring theme.

Re: Notebook "stalls" on startup

I've been playing around with various settings and alterations on my 3000 N200, and (touch wood) seem to have perhaps cured the problem.

I reinstalled Windows XP using the recovery software available on the laptop.  From this clean install, I then did a complete Windows update to ensure that all drivers etc are up to date (note: when reinstalling Windows, no drivers are picked up for the onboard Intel ethernet/wireless - therefore make sure you either have another computer with an internet connection so you can download these drivers, or download the drivers before you do the reinstall and keep them on a memory stick somewhere).

I then went onto the Lenovo website and downloaded the BIOS updates for the machine (for my machine = http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67855).  Followed the install instructions to the letter, flashed the BIOS, and restarted the laptop.  So far so good.  The laptop has been running for a couple of weeks without issue - the boot up problem seems to be cured for now.  Obviously, this problem cropped up after using the laptop for a few months anyway, so we'll have to see whether it reoccurs sometime in the near future, but the solution may be worth looking at if you are having start up issues.

I can't apply this solution because I cannot even load up the recovery software. See posting of symptoms above.

Mark, having looked at this issue for a week I'm presuming you have not been able to arrive at a definitive solution. With this in mind I'm going to push for a refund since I cannot go much longer without a laptop. Thanks for your help anyway.

Hello everybody!

I have take my Lenovo 3000 N200 to IBM yesterday evening, today it on my desk again. After running the test the mechanic said that there is nothing with my hardware or software, so it is impossible repair it for now. Also I've received message from Mark, he told the same as IBM mechanic - there is no solution for this problem yet.

I will receive a document witch proves that computer is damaged. So, according to Lithuanian law I will receive full price I paid for my computer (it is still under warranty) and I'll purchase new one!

Maybe you can do the same in your country?

Yangtze, have you got a recovery disk for the laptop?  Or would you only do a recovery via the built in recovery system?
