V470 fingerprint reader does not read

2011-06-26, 12:14 PM

Hi,

I bought recently a Lenovo V470 and I rarely use it. Few days ago I wanted to log on to my windows account through my fingerprint but nothing happens like if the sensor doesn't read. I connected through password and when going to Bioexcess and trying to register more fingerprints to see where is the problem, I sweep my finger but it shows nothing which means the sensor doesn't read although everything seems OK regarding the software and the driver... (PS: In the Bios setup there is nothing that refers to a fingerprint reader or like).

can you check device manager for unknown/non-installed devices?

In device manager everything seems OK. Even in bioexcess it looks like if he knows that the fingerprint scanner is here and just asking to sweep my finger to register a finger print but when I do it looks like if I didn't not sweep anything or like if the sensor doesn't read it. It was working perfect before thought I was using it rarely but the last time I wanted to enter my windows account with it it wouldn't want to work.

No it doesn't work. I can't even register more fingerprints in the bioexcess either as Admin or as simple acount user, I enroll a finger but in the screen, the icon that shows that a finger is sweeping is showing now nothing like if the sensor doesn't capture the prints...

try to re-install drivers first.

have you ever made any changes on your computer recently?
you can try to use windows restore to restore previous point. it may help. also, try to load "last known good configuration" ( when you see lenovo logo at start-up, press f8 to load )

You know what? I've just restored my computer to factory settings (I needed to do it sooner or later for some reason) and again in the Bioexcess when it tells me to sweep my finger and I do, nothing is read; so I guess the sensor mught be spoiled. If it's the case, I am quite surprised how it could since I've been just rarely using my laptip and more rare again the fingerprint reader... What do you thing?

i'm not sure if it's software or hardware but, check device manage for unknown-non-installed device. if you don't have any device, try to re-install its software. if it doesn't work, i suggest you to contact lenovo support line. you may have hardware issue.
