Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

Lenovo agree that's an unsolvable issue. Technicians says it's a producing issue. That's why i've asked for refund and they did. Recently i'm using V330-15IKB and there's no issue since i bought it. There's only one solution is ask for refund and buy a different model.

Re:V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

I have win 10 - 2WCN28RS bios version

windows does not automatically change the bios version.

When i switched to this bios version, i was almost freeze free for couple of months.

Recently it started to freeze multiple times a day. Still using the same 28RS version of bios.

Any ideas?

Re:V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

2020-10-12, 15:40 PM

After a quite stable period, the laptop started to freeze again, and as the warranty was near its end, I definitively don't want to be left with one unusable machine.

Contacted Lenovo's support over the telephone, a technician came to my place, inspected the machine, said it would require a new motherboard.

He called some other support line and ordered a new motherboard, they didn't have one with the same model as I have, so I was told it would be one "equivalent" model.

Turns out my Intel 7th gen CPU(i5-7200u) was replaced with a 6th gen CPU (i7-6500u)

I told to keep the support ticket open because I would need to test if this CPU was really "equivalent" (dual-core 15 watts "i7" have a bad reputation of being just an i5 with an i7 sticker - plus it was older) And while they look similar on some datasheet, my 7th gen processor was very stable at 3.08ghz(2,8Ghz under heavy load), and this 6th gen quickly overheats and drops to 2,00~2,5ghz clock average.

(also integrated graphics is inferior)

But it gets worse

After I've closed the laptop lid, it was stuck, I fear opening it more than 2 fingers height because it would possibly break the screen and the answer was I would need to SENT IT to get A QUOTE !!

  • my warranty support is supposed to be ONSITE
  • this is incorrect mounting and I should not pay for that

I had more plans for testing this "equivalent" CPU (Was trying to be fair and reasonable) but so far it got worst results in all my tests and my laptop is unusable because I cannot open it

that's it, this is my experience with LENOVO/IBM SUPPORT

* needless to say, I don't want this weak CPU

**maybe this was a true mistake, maybe it's their tactic, send a weak CPU and expect you just accept it

I had been using the 2WCN28RS BIOS for several months without a single freezing. Recently, I decided to install the latest BIOS , version 2WCN44W, just to try and see, if it contains a fix for the freezing problem. The 28RS just worked fine, but I was just curious about the new one....

Unfortunately... the 2WCN44W DOES NOT fix the freezing problem. The freezing came back like a nightmare.

The worst part is, that, this bios version DOES NOT allow you to go back to any previous  bios version, including the 28RS version. After trying to flash back an earlier version, it shows the following message:

Error: Region numbers are not equal. Image has 23 regions and ROM has 24 regions

Error 217. BIOS layout does not match!

Lenovo guys and girls, please, this is unacceptable! Lenovo does not allow back flash of their own BIOS? Still not a solution for the freezing problem? This is unbelieavable and so disappointing from such a famous company.

PLEASE FIX THIS.

Is there any fix for this issue? i got 44WW aswell and cant downgrade anymore bc of this error :(((

go to C:\Windows\Firmware\{E20BAFD3-9914-4F4F-9537-3129E090EB3C} (replace with your ID) and delete or rename file 2WCN29WW.bin

the updates will stop happening

No problem with 2wcn28rs, freeze came back when I installed 2wcn46ww. That's when I figured out why I paused the windows10 update.

Unfortunately The 2WCN46WW still has Freeze problem. The freeze happens only when the laptop is not connected to the charger.

The 28RS version does not have the freeze problem. (I attach it if you want to try it )

If you already have the 2WCN46WW, it will not allow to downgrade the bios version to the 28RS or other older. They locked it somehow! Only older versions allowed the 28RS to be installed.

So we are doomed.
