The BIOS releases started to block the downgrade procedure shortly after it was announced in this thread that the version 2WCN28RS is "freeze-free". Also, they removed from their website the links to manually download the older BIOS versions files. It is clear that they want us to stay with the freezing bug and be forced to buy a new laptop.

Anyone who  has a BIOS version 2WCN41WW or lower, please do not update your BIOS, instead install the 2WCN28RS (attached) to solve the freezing problem.

From what I've read it's impossible to downgrade from 2WCN46WW?

What about hardware reset? I've opened up my laptop and tried to clear the CMOS by disconnecting both main and CMOS battery. But the bios version won't go back to factory? Is this normal? I even disconnected the windows drive.

Re:V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

Recently I mentioned to have the latest Bios Version 46WW as well and now there is nothing we can do, because Lenovo does not care and additionally prevents to downgrade. I know the device slowly getting old now, but maybe there are some who would be pleased with a possible solution.

So  I think I have found following solution that works for me. Last 2 weeks i had no freezes no more. Sorry for the language upfront on the screenshot (it is german), but I'm sure you know where to find this settings: "Maximum processor frequency" in "advanced Power Options" to 95%. My approach is to decrease the magnitude and frequency of the maximum load conditions, due to the assumption this freezes are results from the inability of the system to provide the stability at high loads, fast changing loads, or high temperatures or a combination of these.

Of course it is dissappointing the solution is to sacrifice performance you have paid for. If this arises from a faulty hardware combination with insuffient voltage regulation or cooling solution, and decreasing the performance as a solution indicates a very high probability, it should be covered by the warranty claims.

But at the end of the day 5% are a good trade off. I don't notice the difference, although there is a loss, but the annoying freezes from nowhere and the worries to lose data or just to loose time and to be thrown back a little randomly from time to time are gone so far.

Please test this approach on your system and drop a line if it helped or not.

Hi all,

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing freezes on your V510. If you have tried to load the BIOS defaults after installing the latest BIOS v46 and tried to do a recovery of your system using the DDRS service and the symptom still persists, it is very likely that there is an issue on the hardware of your machine. There are many workarounds being mentioned in this thread, but I agree with many of you who are saying that these shouldn't be necessary. Loading the BIOS defaults after the BIOS update and doing a system recovery using DDRS should definitely fix the symptom if it is being caused by software.

If you have tried the steps advised above and you still experience the freezes on your machine, I'm afraid that it would be necessary to reach out to our service to have your machine examined, diagnosed and fixed by our technicians. Please do not hesitate to contact our service to have the symptom fixed as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Re:V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

Hi. Please explain how is the Digital Download Recovery Service (DDRS) related to the freezing problem and how to use it to solve the freezing problem. So far we have concluded that the freezing problem was related only to the BIOS firmware version. The problem was totally solved when downgrading to the BIOS version 2WCN28RS. Unfortunately all the latest versions have stopped allowing downgrade, even if it is still as an option on the menu (why?), so there is no apparent solution to the freezing problem.
