I have a Lenovo 3000 C100 0761 with Windows XP installed and want to wipe the hard drive and restore it to the factory setting.
Some time ago the C drive was partioned to install Win 98 for some software that didn't like XP. Later the partition was removed and C drive returned to it's original state. Now I don't get an option to enter Rescue and Recovery when I press the Lenovo Care button at the start up screen. The hidden partition is still in place and has not been touched. I guess the master boot record has been modified when changing the C drive partition.
How can I restore the Lenovo care button and Rescue & Recovery options.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Use a partition editor and try to put the hidden partition as ACTIVE (just to boot from there). Then restore completely your system (if it works).

Thanks for the reply.
I've managed to make the partition active and when Windows loads I can now see it as another drive but not sure what to do from there.

You put the hidden partition as active, and it supposed to lunch the Rescue & Recovery system. Give me more details please just to see where are you.

On starting up notebook I get the Acer screen with "To interrupt normal startup, press the Lenovo Care button"
So I press the button and am presented with a menu:
ESC to resume normal startup
F1 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility
F11 to diagnose hardware or recover you system
F12 to choose a temporary startup device.
Press F11 to recover system then briefly see message "No bootable CD in drve" after which Windows XP starts as normal.
When XP is finished loading in My Computer I can see IBM_PRELOAD (C) which is the normal C drive and also IBM_SERVICE (E) the partition which was previously hidden.
The question is how do I:
a) get the recovery option to re-install Windows,
b) use the hidden partition to do the re-installation.

Thanks for your quick response. I haven't been able to find a way to burn discs with the recovery partition. I'm not sure if what I am trying to do is clear. I want to wipe the existing Windows installation and do a clean install to return to factory settings.
