Dual Layer DVD Burning - Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769)

Hi guys,

So I'm trying to burn a DVD+R DL, I have checked with Nero InfoTool which says that I can write Dual Layer discs, but when I try to do it, I get an I/O error at 50% all the time.

I am using windows 7 Ultimate and have a Mat**bleep**a DVD RAM UJ 850-z (ATA). I used ImgBurn to burn an image and single-layer is going great. I use TDK DVD+R DL and I burned at 2.4x

The error, as far as I can see, happens when the drive tries to change the layer it writes on.

Is this the fault of the drive? Would a Verbatim work 100% or should I just give up and use 2 normal dvds?

Re: Dual Layer DVD Burning - Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769)

My first thought would be Nero info tool is falsely identifying the drive as being Dual layer capable (Especially at 50% as this is when it tries to switch layers).  This is a fairly old machine we are talking about so i really don't think the drive is DL capable (Especially in budget machines corners are cut when they can be and a cheap DVD drive is one of those)  I can find no reference anywhere that states your drive is in fact DL capable.  So i would recommend just using two discs.  Even my old Dell Latitude D630 which was a 1500$ machine in it's day (and about 1 year newer then your machine) Does not burn DL discs.

The PSREF for Lenovo 3000 laptops shows
the N200 was indeed available with DL support.

Source: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/psrefs_withdrawn.html

And from what I can find, the UJ 850-z supports
DL at the speed you are using.

Problem could be the brand of disk, the software used,
or the drive itself could be faulty, or need a firmware update,
which may or may not be available.

@ psxsage,

If I remember correctly when the N200 first came out creating recovery discs on any media other than CD-R or DVD-R, never tried dual or double layer, was a problem  If you have any "-" media maybe you could try using it and let us know what happens.

Re: Dual Layer DVD Burning - Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769)

Glad we could get some clarification on that like i said i was unsure.  Being a fairly new Lenovo adopter i am far more well versed in the specs of other brands.
