I have Lenovo M5400 with 3 years warranty. Battery has 6 months warranty i think. My question is:
what is the warranty for optical drive?
do i need the optical drive in notebook if I want to use the warranty?
can i sell the optical drive and replace it with hdd caddy and then remove the caddy and return the notebook without the optical drive (when needed)?

Thanks for Posting!
Optical drive is part of the system's whole warranty, Only the battery has it's seperate warranty because it is considered as consumable.

If your warranty is covers more than one year then yes and it depeneds on what type of warranty you have for the system,
and what do you mean by return?

by return i mean return in case of notebook failure.
and my warranty is:
This product has a one year limited warranty and is entitled to parts, labor and carry-in repair service. In some countries, courier service will be provided. Many parts can also be delivered to you using the Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) method.
This product has a three year limited warranty which includes a LenovoCa re warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor via cus tomer carry-in service. Service is provided through an authorized Lenovo Business Partner and is available Monday-Frid ay, except holidays.

You warranty indicates Part labor and Repair service,
In any case of Failure if you return the system , they will either Have the unit repaired or tested for any part failure and replace the parts.
You system has a three Year Warranty so yes every parts will carry that Warranty period only the battery will have its own.
Hope this helps
