Lenovo V130-15IKB RAM upgrade

2018-11-20, 10:46 AM

Hi.

I just bought V130-15IKB Laptop (type 81HN00EURI) for my mom. I want to upgrade the RAM as the 4 GB soldered might not be enough.

I would like to add an aditional 4 GB so the system can work in dual channel mode. To do this I know I must buy an (almost) identical SODIMM.

The problem is I don't know for sure what are the specifications of the soldered RAM.

On the site on which I bought the RAM it says 4 GB DDR4, 2133 MHz frequency.

However doing "lshw -C memory" in Ubuntu says something a bit different (at least regarding frequency):

*-memory
       description: System Memory
       physical id: 2
       slot: System board or motherboard
       size: 4GiB
     *-bank:0
description: SODIMM DDR4 Synchronous Unbuffered (Unregistered) 2400 MHz (0.4 ns)
          product: M471A5244CB0-CRC
          vendor: Samsung
          physical id: 0
          serial: 00000000
          slot: ChannelA-DIMM0
          size: 4GiB
          width: 64 bits
          clock: 2400MHz (0.4ns)
     *-bank:1
          description: [empty]
          physical id: 1
          slot: ChannelB-DIMM0

Also dmidecode (also Linux) lists about the same things:

# dmidecode 3.1
Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.
SMBIOS 3.0.0 present.

Handle 0x0003, DMI type 17, 40 bytes
Memory Device
	Array Handle: 0x0002
	Error Information Handle: Not Provided
	Total Width: 64 bits
	Data Width: 64 bits
	Size: 4096 MB
	Form Factor: SODIMM
	Set: None
	Locator: ChannelA-DIMM0
	Bank Locator: BANK 0
	Type: DDR4
	Type Detail: Synchronous Unbuffered (Unregistered)
	Speed: 2400 MT/s
	Manufacturer: Samsung
	Serial Number: 00000000
	Asset Tag: 9876543210
	Part Number: M471A5244CB0-CRC
	Rank: 1
	Configured Clock Speed: 2400 MT/s
	Minimum Voltage: Unknown
	Maximum Voltage: Unknown
	Configured Voltage: 1.2 V

I tried with CPUZ in windows but did not get helpful info.

Does anyone knows if this laptop endeed has M471A5244CB0-CRC memory type (at 2400 MHz, 1.2 V) and if I buy 4GB of the same memory the laptop will work and maybe dual channel would also work?

Thanks a lot,

Andrei

Hi AndreiP1! Welcome to our forums community. Yes, that RAM is one of the parts used in the V130-20IGM model. As for dual channel, there's a big chance that it work will since the memory controller on the CPU supports it.

Part#: 01HW756

Re: Lenovo V130-15IKB RAM upgrade

Thanks a lot for the help Jwes_Lenovo!

I tried to purchase the Samsung memory but unfortunatelly can't find it anywhere in Romania.

So looking in the compatible memories for  V130-15IKB on the Lenovo site I found:

SODIMM,4GB, DDR4, 2400 ,Kingston part id 01AG873
which is compatible with the Samsung memory ( part id 01HW756).  I saw that Kingston memories are more readily available in my area.

Can you please confirm me that this memory (01AG873) is compatible to with the Samsung one (01HW756)?
If so, can you please provide me more info about this memory, like it's Kingston part name? (similar to M471A5244CB0-CRC from Samsung).
That way I know I'm buying the right stuff.

Thanks a lot for your help again!
All the best,
Andrei

Hi my pc model is v-130 14ikb with 4 gb inbuilt ram. I actually upgraded 4 gb slot to my pc. Initially i could able to see 8 gb ram in my pc but recently when i checked my pc could not able to detect 4 gb slot, even i used the new set also but my pc ram slot is not detecting the ram .. is this the hardware problem or just any setting i need to .

Even i checked in bios also its showing me only inbuilt memory not the one which placed in the ram slot ..Please help me to resolve the issue.
