N200 0769 flash card reader (Ricoh) slow transfers

2008-05-02, 18:42 PM
Hello!
I just bought Sandisk 4GB SDHC Extreme III flash card and found out that VHB can not use it as a readyboost device while using N200 card reader. Using external reader it works as it should.
Next I did a speed test transfering large file to card. Hmmmm... Using external reader I get ~14MB/s while using N200 Ricoh reader i get sad ~2,5MB/s. Is it realy so slow or something is wrong with my machine?

Robert Marceli Falkowski.
N200 0769 BHG.

try this:

put in sd card.

go to device manager, search for the sd (the card itself, not the reader!)
preferences
there should be an option to enable fast reading/writing in vista (cant tell exactly how its called, I´m running german version)

if enabled, it should be very fast

cheers

Thank You but it was first option I tried but still speed is ~2,5MB/s writing and ~3MB/s reading using Ricoh card reader.
BTW: It seams to be a bit faster when optimalization for speed is off. ~3,4MB/s write. Go figure!
Any other hints?

Edit: Well, maybe I ask different questions.
1. Is it so slow only on my N200?
2. Can it be improved with new driver or no way(!) Lenovo designed it as a slowest SD card reader money can buy? ;)

After some searching and reading about my problem I found out that I am not alone.
Even some Thinkpads users with Ricoh readers report slow transfers reading and writing flash cards. Is it true? :smileysurprised:
IMHO ~3MB/s speed is pathetic. Sorry to say :/

Hi!

I got almost exactly same problem with my thinkapad tablet X60. Data transfer it not annoying me as much as system slow down during simple operations on SD card (such like folders/ txt files opeing ). Once I start doing anything on SD card the system CPU hits 100% immediately making any other tasks choppy or impossible to carry at all.

I'm not an expert but to me it seems there must be software/driver issue because things got improved though slightly a bit since installation Vista SP1 (clean copy). And lenovo doesn't offer any drivers on support page so we are left to generic microsoft drivers only.

Any other thoughts?
