also is there any BIOS or software changes that ned to be made manually? or does it work like most other computers, and its just plug and play?

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Similar to those mentioned in this post, the m.2 sata interface provided for an upgrade does accommodate 128 GB up to 256GB. Compatible SSD listed 128GB LiteonCV3-8D128 M.2 part number 2280128G SSD and 128GB Samsung PM871a.
This should work be detected by the BIOS automatically.
For other compatible parts, I used the same part number from the manual (2280128G) in the parts look up page (look up by part number) and it provided more choices as follow:
Hope this help answer your query.

256 GB SSD m.2 is the OEM recommendation so we cannot vouch for anything larger.
Still, it would be worth to test it if you have a spare so that other members can be informed too.

The answer you recieved from "Spidy101" is complete (plus it was based on 2015 information). I have a N22 Winbook with a June 2017 build date, and it has an internal PCIe (single tooth) M.2 connector and a spot for an 80mm M.2as well. I spoke to Lenovo Tech Support today and made them get (2) verifications from their supervision before accepting the hard cold facts on adding an M.2 PCIe SSD; regadless of size. The lack of BIOS support is probably stopping an additional SSD from being recogized. That tech told me these notebooks were build for educational customers and are made to use As Is. The Tech even told me that adding an additional M.2 would constitute "unapproved modification" to the notebook, and would void the warranty.
There has been all kind of speculation posted here about adding an SSD to this recent model N22 - all of it wrong. And if anybody can PROVE they were sucessful in an installation post the proof Here ! (with a screen shot showing the second drive listed in the Drive management section of the Admin Tools). Belive me you won't see it......

actually I got it to work. The first drive didn’t work because it was one of the newer NVMe (Samsung 960 evo V6E250BW) m.2 SSD, I got an older model (Samsung 850 evo MZ-N5E250)and it detected it just fine. Plug and play. I however didn’t notice the other m.2 slot. Maybe it was there maybe not. I don’t remember

Previous stated information are OEM configurations, upgrades we perform are user initiative we share experiences here in our community to things tried and confirmed outside such settings.
As in our case, we confirmed finctionality of 3rd party Samsung 850 evo MZ-N5E250 as it also share the same host SATA interface as the recommended by OEM listed above but not the NVMe Samsung 960 evo V6E250BW PCIe interface on the same M.2 slot.
Available slot would most likely do not have electronic contact design for it as it would only accept SATA instead as specified on the hardware manual page 27.
