I have the same problem, but in N500 4233-39G. I know, that in ThinkPad R51e there is the same, but there is ThinkPad Configuration, which allows you to disable this beep. Please better BIOS or configuration application, which allows me to change it in N500.
P.S. Sorry for my english.

So this is the solution?
Disable the sound alltogether?
I have the n500 4233-39G and I want to disable the "120 dB Ear-drum Shattering Power State Change Beep", either in BIOS or in some sort of power management util.
Hope I'm not asking to much.

Could you please explain how to do that?
I have in 'sounds' in 'control panel' ALL sounds deactivated, and I don't listen no sounds at all (when windows starts, closes etc etc) but STILL I listen the loud beep.
Maybe I just don't understand what you mean, or its because mine is an N500 38g and not a 46g like yours?

I have 39G version and this solution works(thanks). This is in(i have polish Vista, so names may not be the same): Start > Control panel > Hardware and sound > Sound > select "Speakers" > click button called "Settings"(or "Proporties" ) > go to "Levels" tab > click icon in "PC Speaker" field > click OK > click OK > close all windows.

Rightclick on the small volume icon next to the clock -> output devices. Then there was an entry namend "System Speakers".
I don't have the notebook around...
