No stereo sound through mic input.

2008-05-20, 14:41 PM
The specifications i have seen for my 3000 C200 say that the mic input is stereo. I installed Audacity recording software and connected my stereo guitar FX to the mic socket. The volume is fine, and the quality good with no clipping, however the sound is mono. I have updated the drivers, checked balance and mixer settings but still no luck. I tried a different recording program (Cantabile Lite) and also Windows sound recorder, but i can only monitor and record in mono. The sound is perfectly central when using headphones. Any advice would be appreciated.
Ric.

Maybe I'm jut a newbie in computers, but never heared of stereo microfones in notebooks...
Even in professional audio labs I worked and played in (skripka means Violin in Russia) the microfones were mono only.
So, barely microfon is stereo.
But, however, I'm not familiar to this model by myself, so, maybe someone that owns a model can help.

Yes, according to specs it's a stereo mic input. Stereo mic sockets can be found on all sorts of equipment like Archos and MiniDisc recorders. Stereo microphones are commonly available. A stereo output from an effects unit would normally be plugged into the line in socket, but if there is only a mic input i think it should be possible to use it provided the input signal is not too high. Studios use mono inputs because they are much more robust, and in a multi - track environment it is easy to use 2 mono inputs to create a stereo pair, ( as in connecting a stereo keyboard ).
