Problem Restoring Factory settings from Rescue CD (no Recovery Disk 1)

I am trying to reset my Lenovo 3000 N100 to factory settings from the Recovery and Rescue CDs I created when I first got the laptop.  At the time, the system created 3 disks which were labeled: Lenovo Rescue S/U; 1C and Final C.

The process starts with the Rescue S/U, but after the initial reboot it asks for Disk 1.  I have tried all 3 disks, but none of them are accepted as "Disk 1".  The only options are OK and Cancel.  When I select OK, it asks for Disk 1.  When I select Cancel, it reboots the system returns to the recovery screen, and asks for Disk 1.

This is an endless loop.  Can't get past it's looking for Disk 1.

Re: Problem Restoring Factory settings from Rescue CD (no Recovery Disk 1)

Gerry_M, welcome to the forum,

there could be two possible issues at work here which I can think of;

after booting from the cd are you choosing to restore your system to factory or to an image? You must select the factory option.

Are you getting a message asking for a "supplemental disc"? If so you need to click no at this point and it should then ask for the first recovery disc.

Hope this helps

Andy

Re: Problem Restoring Factory settings from Rescue CD (no Recovery Disk 1)

Hi Andy,

I probably should add that I am trying to restore on a brand new HD (the original was damaged).

After booting, I am choosing to restore my system to factory settings.  After processing the Recovery S/U disk, it asks me if I have a supplemental disk.  I take the NO reply.  It then asks for Disk 1.  At this point, it will not accept any of the 3 disks that i have at hand (SU, C1, C Final).  It keeps on saying it is the wrong disk.  I have only 2 options, insert a disk (that I do not have) or cancel.  If I cancel, it reboots and then asks for Disk 1 again.

Interesting. Could it be that you actually created an image?

After booting from the cd what happens if you choose to recover from an image selecting disc as the media source option?
