RESTARTING INSTEAD OF SHUTTING DOWN

2017-02-24, 9:12 AM

Hi!!

I have some computers (an e31-70 laptop and a ThinkCentre E73) in my organization which presents a strange behavior when trying to shutdown.

If I select "shutdown" from the start menu, then the computers restarts...just restart not shutdown!! The only way I have been able to shutdown these computers is closing session and then shutting down.

I've tried from command console with the order "shutdown /r /t 0" but the behaviour it's the same.

Can someone help me with that??

Thanks in advance!!!

The /r switch is for restart. Try "shutdown /s /t 0". You can check the available switches with "shutdown /?".

Yeah! you're right, the correct sentence is "shutdown /s /t 0". It was a writing mistake, actually I've used the correct sentence in the computer with the same result.

In adition, if I try to shutdown using the start menu button it just restarts, i don't want to use a cmd sentence every time i want to shutdown the computer.

Hi there, Danivp         -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Thanks for information Zaxx:smileyhappy:

Also, Select Start, (Start then Run in XP), type sysdm.cpl, and press ENTER. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Settings button under 'Start-up and Recovery' (as opposed to the other two Settings buttons on that tab). Uncheck automatically restart.

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

Go to "device manager" At keyboard HID and Mouse HID, also on Network adapter > power management, uncheck "allow this device to wake up computer". This stopped my computer from restarting instead of shut down.

I believe it will also work with any previous version of windows.

Thanks for trying, but it continues restarting.

The curious thing it's that after I select shut down, the computer restarts, but then in the login screen I CAN shutdown as usual without problems...

By the way, i haven't said it before but my OS is Windows 10

Thanks again

Last resort would be backing up your files and doing a factory reset to isolate if it's an OS issue.

Sorry, but I don't want to do a factory reset.

Maybe with a script that closes session and then shutdown computer?? I don't know if it is possible but it'll be preferable than doing a factory reset.....

Welcome to the Lenovo Community danivp !

One suggestion...... when you select and choose shut down from the Start Menu, have you tried holding down the shift key before clicking on shut down?
