Replacing v110-15isk (80TL) keyboard

2018-03-14, 8:52 AM

I'm having to replace the keyboard on a V110-15ISK laptop . However the keyboard and its aluminium cover plate have no screws that can be removed, but seem to be 'welded' to the front cover of the laptop,  using pre-moulded plastic pillars.

Has anyone had to replace one of these keyboards or has any suggestions ??

thanks

Hi TB689,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking from the hardware manual, the keyboard are bundled with the upper case. Replacement of the keyboard may require the entire upper case removed.

You can reference the upper case removal here in page 54 along with the service module for reference.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Thanks for the reply Spidey101,

No problem with stripping the laptop down, however the manuals seem to suggest that I need to buy a complete upper case (with keyboard pre-fitted ).
After a bit of soul searching I have decide to carefully remove the tops of all the plastic 'welds' with a sharp knife, from both the aluminium cover and keyboard.
Then replace the keyboard with the new one and then use a touch of 'hot glue' dabbed on the top of the plastic pillars to 'weld' it back into position.
Will post the result on how it goes!

Hi TB689,

This was the same DIY steps other techs do as seen in some videos  for  glued keyboards in the upper case.

Similar projects do work out ok with the right materials and not rushing on the glued parts.

I am optimistic that all would go well.

Regards
