SD Card reader not reading SD Cards

Hey there, its me again. Yesterday I tried the card reader that is built into the laptop yesterday, and to my disappointment, it simply didn't work. I push the card in, and after I hear the click, it sits in the slot how it is supposed to. The light comes on for about a second, then shuts off right away. I've tried in Windows 7 64 bit and Windows xp 64 bit, and neither one responded despite having the right drivers and everything.

Any ideas, or was this just poor design, like the rest of the machine?

Re: SD Card reader not reading SD Cards

make sure you installed the drivers, sd cards are working and check your manual for sd compatibility.

Re: SD Card reader not reading SD Cards

As mentioned in the previous post, the drivers installed right away in both xp and 7.

They should be compatible. Even if they were SD "HC" cards that some devices struggle with (Which they aren't), shouldn't this thing be able to read them anyway? Did it install the wrong drivers by default? Does something have to be changed in the BIOS (I didn't see anything, but...)?

Thanks

Can you try an Ubuntu Live CD/ USB Stick? Just to discard any OS related problem.

Will it have drivers for the Card reader by default?

MOVING FORWARD SD CARD Reply

Holy Crap, it actually worked in an old copy of Ubuntu I had sitting around. I'm assuming there are updated drivers for that on Windows?

Re: MOVING FORWARD SD CARD Reply

Maybe. Just check the download page for your laptop and use the proper driver.

This is the closest thing I could find: www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67867 Its not a "five in one" Like in the description. Do you think that this might be close enough? Dr Robinson
