Upgrade RAM on IdeaPad C340-14API

Hello,

I recently bought an IdeaPad C340-14API with the folowing specs :

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U

Vega 10

8 Go RAM

I would like to upgrade the RAM:

- is it possible?

- do you lose the warranty by doing so?

- what is the maximum RAM you can upgrade to?

- any recommended brands?

- does it have any effect on the battery usage/life or any other aspects of the computer?

Thanks a lot for your answers

Re: Upgrade RAM on IdeaPad C340-14API

Hi Deus-X-Machina,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The C340 is only capable of holding up to 8GB MAX of RAM as confirmed by PSREF.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Re: Upgrade RAM on IdeaPad C340-14API

I just upgraded to 16GB. Very easy to do. Take out all 13 screws and pry apart. You'll see simm slot when you open. When I opened my 330 idea pad I discovered they had left the simm card out! I'm still searching answers for that.

Re: Upgrade RAM on IdeaPad C340-14API

Thank you for your answer.
I have the "81N60032FR" model.
Where do you see that the C340 is only capable of holding up to 8GB MAX of RAM?
(i'm sorry i'm really far from being an expert).
Especially sheek49 seems like he managed to upgrade his RAM.

My specs says : 4GB Soldered + 4GB DIMM DDR4-2400

Edit : Especially there seem to be compatible products:

Re: Upgrade RAM on IdeaPad C340-14API

Hi Deus-X-Machina,

Thanks for writing back.

I believe that sheek49 uses a 330 model based on his post.

Attached below is the documentation that the machine can was only tested to hold up to 8GB max.

You can still try to upgrade past that limit since the machine was only tested up to 8GB it may still be possible that the machine will work with an amount higher than that.

Hope this helps,

Re: Upgrade RAM on IdeaPad C340-14API

Thanks again for the follow up !

I've actually found some website stating that the chipset can hold up to 32 gb :
https://www.game-debate.com/hardware/index.php?pid=2583&cpu=Ryzen%207%203700U%204-Core%202.3%20GHz
https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/amd/ryzen_7/3700u

But the laptop seems to be limited to 20 GB:

https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/lenovo/ideapad/c340-14-inch-amd

I think i will give it a try !

Re: Upgrade RAM on IdeaPad C340-14API

Hi Deus-X-Machina,

Thanks for writing back.

I've tried researching for official articles where members were successful in upgrading past the 8GB limit and I have found none for your variant.

I was able to find a discussion on the same machine but for different variants you can read that here.

It would also be helpful to note that our engineering team have only tested this machine with up to 8GB ram and have not tested it officially with anything more than that.

Since this is the case you can try upgrading and see how that will go it may or may not work depending on the situation, just make sure that you are using the right type of RAM.

It is also helpful to note that some RAM manufacturers like Crucial have 16GB ram variants for sale with this machine this means that they have tested the machine to work with up to 16GB RAM. You can use this link to view.

Hope this helps.

Let me know if I can help with anything else,

Jack_Lenovo1
