V110-15IKB: RAM in slot 1 is not recognized by macOS but by Linux and Windows

2018-02-12, 14:51 PM

I've noticed a strange phenomenon with my Lenovo V110-15IKB after I put in another 4 GB into the only slot available:

Though the BIOS recognizes the full 8GB, macOS 10.12 (and also 10.13/High Sierra) does not and does not start at all. But when I start Linux or Windows both seem to accept both.

To have startup macOS I have to manually register the RAM in Clovers Config.plist.

Another strange effect is with Memtest86:

The utility only sees the soldered 4GB but not the new module, though it obviously recognizes the full 8192MB.

What's wrong?
