Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

After installing the latest recommended drivers in your post, the notebook has been running smoothly without ever blocking for 5-6 days, after which it has started to freeze again as before with same frequency. Could you describe the - Option "NoAccel" "True" - procedure so we can test it? Thank you

Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

Disabling "Accel" on ubuntu 16.04 and newer can be done by creating the file

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

with this config:

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel_no_accel"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "Accel" "false"
EndSection

if it won't help I recomend to test with disabled DRI, if it is appropriate to you:

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel_no_accel_no_DRI"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "Accel" "false"
   Option "DRI" "false"
EndSection

With disabled DRI and intel drivers v 2.0.4 my laptop (Xubuntu 16.04) runs without freezes, but XFCE has a lot of graphics glitches after several hours of work, so I need to restart lightdm service or reboot periodically, maybe other desktop environments like Unity do not has same issues.

Share your results, please

Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

Thank you very much for the procedure. Right after few minutes I wrote the last post, I implemented the procedure 2 you posted now (with DRI false), since then my Xubuntu  has not yet freezed and works well (3 days today). I'll keep you up-to-date.

Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

Has anyone tried to disable the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) in BIOS?

Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

I tried to disable it, and every other editable option, but nothing works. I hope will work well with the xorg configuration file.

Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

Which desctop environment are you using? Is there are visual glitches like transparent windows after long work?

Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

My desktop environment is xfce (Xubuntu 17.04). With the configuration below (1) notebook worked well without problems for 3 days (no glitches) , but i can't watch videos with option "Accel" "false" , so I'm trying without (2).

Configuration 1

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel_no_accel_no_DRI"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "Accel" "false"
   Option "DRI" "false"
EndSection

Configuration 2

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel_no_accel_no_DRI"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "DRI" "false"
EndSection

Re: V510-15IKB Laptop Freeze

I think it has nothing to do with operating system settings, a lot of people report that it happens on both win and linux, with newest drivers on win, etc.

On my machine, sometimes it happens once in 10 days (that's what happened when I installed newest bios and newest graphics drivers, and for a moment I thought it was resolved...), and sometimes few times a day.

So, looks very much like a pure hardware problem, like losing some contact somewhere, or something... Maybe a bios update or some bios setting would resolve it, but I doubt it.
