V560 Fingerprint scanner intermittent issues

2011-05-10, 19:38 PM

Occasionally my fingerprint scanner on my V560 will not read at all.  I have updated to the latest software and received the latest drivers but sometimes (usually after 15-30 minutes) the reader will stop working.

I've seen other issues but no resolutions on this.

Anyone have any luck?

Thanks.

did you try to re-install the drivers?
( un-install drivers first, restart your computer and re-install again )

I uninstalled the drivers and the Bio Console software. I restarted, installed driver and Bio Console and still have the same problems.

I think there may be an issue with the driver. I downloaded the Win 7 64 bit driver from the Lenovo site:
http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/in/en/DriversDownLoads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=607595&OS=Windows%207%2064bit

But it tries to install it at: ...\driver\x32\vista

So I think the driver on the Lenovo site is incorrect.

Everything, including the finger print reader is recognized. The driver installed looks like the lateset: 8.70.801.1024.

Hi bryanrs!

When you say your fingerprint reader will not read at all sometimes, do you mean you get a red X, or nothing at all?

I spend a fair amount of time in dry places, and sometimes my fingers are so dry that scanning fails or does not register at all. I'm like a lizard trying to log in :smileysurprised:. My workaround is to moisten my finger and try again :smileywink:.

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

It doesn't work at all. I get nothing, no red X.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.

*EDIT* I tried that solution, but unfortunately it didn't work.  I get not feedback from the fingerprint scanner.

bryanrs,

When it quits on you, does it just start working again on its own?

Next time it quits on you, go into device manager and right click on the sensor and disable it.  Then re-enable it. See if it starts working again.

Edit:   Another thing you can do is in device manager, right click on the reader, properties, power management, unclick, "Allow windows to turn off this device to save power".

It does eventually start working again.  I don't see any option for power management in device manager properties for the fingerprint reader.  Am I missing something?

Thanks for the input.

@bryanrs,

What topmahof meant was Device Manager -> Biometric Devices -> Double click on sensor -> Power Management -> "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" (uncheck).
