I recently bought a Crucial MX100 256GB SSD to replace my old 500GB which I want to use as a "download area". For this I have also bought a HDD caddy and removed the ODD. So the final configuration is SSD in the first SATA slot and HDD in the ODD's SATA slot.
Everything worked fine with Windows on my SSD but when I installed Ubuntu 14.04 and set up GRUB2 I noticed the following behaviour:
- if both drives are connected (SDD + HDD) the laptop is unable to enter GRUB which is installed on the /boot partition of the SSD (at the beginning of the drive)
- if I remove the HDD before turning the laptop on, the GRUB gets initalized and I can choose my OS to boot into
I want, thus, to be able to keep both drives connected. I have tried swapping the SATA ports but got the same result.
Any clues on what can I try else? I see that there's no BIOS update available for my model.
