V570 will not shut down, have to hold power button to get it to shut off

2012-07-17, 1:27 AM

title pretty much says it all.  I had a google redirect virus which I could not clean so I formatted my drive and reinstalled Win7.  Now my V570 will not shut down, windows will close but the laptop stays powered up, I need to hold the power button for 5 seconds to get the laptop to turn off.  I also can't do a restart for the same reason.

Is it the hard drive? a bad install of windows? or a setting I need to check?

thanks,

bob

Hi bobc,

You say that you reinstalled Windows,

please tell us how exactly(what method did you use)

İs it a W.7 OS?

Did you try to shut the laptop down in Safe Mode?

İf you haven't please do.İf it shuts down fine there

then it's likely a driver problem.

İs there a BİOS update available for your machine,

if so updating it,may be helpful.

Please read the NOTES at the download before you proceed.

Also a start up program may be the cause of it.

Another important question would be:

Did  this problem occur straight after the reinstall

or  soon afterwards, maybe after you reinstalled programs and your documents etc?

Did you use an external hard drive to restore any of the above?

Re: V570 will not shut down, have to hold power button to get it to shut off

This is a year later than the previous post, but I have not been able to shut down my Lenovo V570 under software control - ever (2 years now).

Holding the power button for 5 seconds is the only thing that works.

If I hibernate, the V570 shuts down after the battery discharges. I first noticed this problem about a month after getting the V570, when I had my newly icenced Autodesk Autocad installed, and MS Office, plus transferring my Firefox and email data from my older laptop (Toshiba - which still works like a dream after 10 years -WinXP).

Because of the data and licencing issues, I decided to live with the problem, but if there is a firmware upgrade for the V570 that will fix the problem, I would be happy. I am worried that after 2 years the power button will soon fail.

Start->Hibernate or Start->Shutdown should shut the power down, but does not. Software restart works fine, power goes off for a second then back on.
