Is there an upper limit on the hard drive size I can install in a Lenovo 3000 N200 system? The current HDD is a WD1600BEVS-08RST2, a SATA so must the HDD be SATA? Or even SATA2 will be fine?

n200 hdd.jpgLenovo has not specified a maximum addressable size (based on BIOS) for this model and capacities listed on the support site are limited by the drives that were originally marketed as config options for the system.

Practically speaking, the system should recognize 640GB or even 750GB, and will work with either SATA 1 or 2 type drives, although the actual throughput will be limited to SATA 1 level speeds of 150 MB/s.  One consideration is thickness of potential OEM upgrade drives - a maximum 9.5mm dimension is the limit.

Be sure to transfer over the mounting tray / sled from the original drive to ensure a secure fit in the laptop.
