I connected an external drive to my Lenovo 3000 N500 computer, which is running Windows 7. However, it does not appear in my drives, even when I checked the directory.


I used Windows troubleshooting and was guided to download and install a driver as a solution for my problem.


On the first installation I was asked  if I wanted to overwrite exisiting files and I checked "yes to all".


However installation was unsuccessful, even after repeat trials, and my computer cannot even start up.


Once switched on the first start-up screen loops and I get an error message:


PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

I tried repairing with a Windows installation CD but it does not work.

I even tried installing Windows again but in the beginning of the setup it says: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing".


What should I do?


You may have a bad/corrupted HD, and/ or bad installation media.


When you get the message: 


A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing, this often means that the CD/DVD is bad or unreadable for some other reason, which often results from a bad download or burn. Try another DVD in the drive. If it works, then there is something wrong with the downloaded files or burn. Redo the process and try again.
